If you have been visiting Chatham United Methodist, and would like a closer connection, we invite you to join our New Member class and explore the option of joining the church! You are welcome to remain a “regular visitor” as long as you wish, but when Christ calls you into a deeper relationship, to become a “member of the Body,” we are ready to help you take that next step!

“Lunch with the Pastor” events, and orientation classes for prospective members, are held each fall and spring, in order to help you make your decision. Orientation classes offer background on the United Methodist Church in general (history, governance, theological and social beliefs), Chatham United Methodist Church in particular (our history, mission-vision-purpose, leadership and ministries, strategic plan, and how to get involved), and an in-depth look at what it means to “be a member.”

We use a variety of United Methodist Resources (including the denominational website: www.umc.org) as well as Thom Rainer’s book I Am a Church Member (provided to class members).

Membership in the United Methodist Church is open to all baptized youth and adults, regardless of age, race, national origin, sexual orientation/gender identity, economic status, educational level, or previous church experience. We invite transfer members from other congregations (United Methodist or otherwise) to participate in New Member classes, to maximize their spiritual connection, relationship with other class members, and preparation to make vows of membership.

Please inquire about the next New Member class by calling the church office (217-483-2132) or emailing Pastor Miriam.
