Lay Ministry Coordinator

Carol has been Lay Ministry Coordinator at Chatham UMC since 2002.  Before moving here from her home state of Texas in 2001, Carol was an educator for twenty years. She most loves assisting members of our church family connect with meaningful ministries using their spiritual gifts and creating visuals to enhance the worship experience. When she’s not working, Carol enjoys spending time with her family, friends, and fur babies, watching football or basketball, and dreaming up projects for her husband, Ted.


Cheryl Vertrees

Office manager

Cheryl has served in the position of Office Manager at Chatham UMC since September, 2016.  She enjoys doing for others, so serving the church family in this job is a good fit for her.  Outside of work, Cheryl mostly enjoy time spent with friends and family – my favorites are son Thomas and daughter Kate!  My hobbies include helping plan special events, reading, cross-stitch embroidery, and cooking.

Sherry Way

Director of Choirs

Sherry has been on staff at Chathan UMC for 3 years. Her family includes her husband Doug who is a mail carrier in Springfield, and a daughter, Katheryn who is married and is attending Western University.  Sherry enjoys reading, traveling, card making and composing. An interesting fact about Sherry is that she’s a huge Lord of the Rings/Harry Potter fan. She has large collections of memorabilia from both movie series.What she loves most about her job, is being able to work with such talented folks who make her laugh and feel like family.


Roger Wainwright

Director of Contemporary Worship & Praise Band

Roger Wainwright has been the praise band director at CUMC since October of 2011.He has one daughter, Ashlee, and twin granddaughters, Maisee and Hannah. Roger has been a professional musician for 43 years. He was in a road band in the mid 80’s. and toured the east coast. Music is both his hobby and vocation. Roger says, “I am so blessed to get to share music with the talented, and gifted members of the praise band at Chatham UMC. They are a wonderful group of musicians and singers.” Roger places a priority on giving back to his community by being on the board of directors for Green Pastures Christian retreat center and serving as a counselor for the Performing Arts Camp.


Ruth Laird

Pianist & Wedding Coordinator

Ruth has been a part of the dynamic music ministry at Chatham UMC for 25 years. As well as playing the piano in our 8:15 am Traditional Worship Service Ruth offers her skills to her community. She plays piano and accompanies many groups and also plays for special worship services throughout the community. Ruth enjoys playing the piano, gardening, and spending time with her family, especially her 6 wonderful grandchildren. Ruth Laird also serves as CUMC’s Wedding Coordinator. She is an organizational genius and serves by helping couples plan the many details that go into making weddings wonderful and Christ centered occasions. Not only can she plan weddings, but she plays piano for weddings as well.


Melissa Jones

Childcare Coordinator

Melissa Jones is excited to be the nursery coordinator at CUMC! Melissa is new the team at CUMC becoming a part of the team in February 2019. She says, “I has two children, Ryder and Harper. Before becoming a stay-at-home mom, I was a teacher in the two-year old’s classroom at a local daycare. I am also the owner of a natural-light family photography business. All of my friends would tell you that I find joy in minimizing and organizing anywhere and anything, I love to travel with my children, and I go all out of themed parties.” Melissa is excited to get to know all of the families and young children at Chatham United Methodist Church and to watch the children grow!

Natalie Khorishko


Natalie has been working in childcare at Chatham UMC since 2009. Natalie works as a Special Education Attendant for the Springfield School District 186. Natalie really enjoy making crafts with your children and to see how their faces light up at their creations. She is the “craft queen.” In addition to being dedicated to her work and the kids at CUMC she’s utterly dedicated to her family. Her children are Steven, Nick and Anastasia. They enjoy hiking and biking together.
