Providing school supplies to Chatham students is a long-standing commitment from Chatham United Methodist Church.  Three years ago we went from delivering supplies to schools to offering a “one-stop-shop” for students to gather supplies, and entire families to be treated to the welcoming arms of our congregation.

This year’s Back to School Blessings Day is August 5, 2017.  But this day cannot be done without all hands on deck.  First off, we need prayers to support this mission.  We are also in need of many volunteers to help shop, organize supplies, sort and bag items, and shop with students at the event, as well as set-up and clean-up.  We are also in need of kitchen helpers, stylists to offer student haircuts, and people to wash and check cars for basic maintenance needs.  In addition we need backpacks – LOTS of them from the littles to the bigs.  To-date (June 20) there are 152 students registered.  Last year’s count reached 215.  Finally, we need financial support.  We are looking for individual and sponsorship donations.

Please contact the church office to get on the volunteer list. Place an offering marked “school supplies” or “BTSBD” in the offering plate… or talk with Barb Hunt or Shelly Phillips about how you want to support this outreach event.  You can leave a message with the church office (483-2132) or you can text or call Shelly (217-891-5769).  We look forward to hearing from you!
