Ash_Wednesday_std_tThe tradition of Ash Wednesday marks the beginning of the season of Lent.

For forty days we slow our pace, and take time for prayer, reflection, repentance and meditation. We remember that we are formed from the dust of the earth…and to that dust we will one day return.

For many Christians, Lent is the holiest time of the year, carving out sacred time for self-reflection before the joy of Easter. And the service of ashes (produced from the burning of last year’s Palms) “marks” both ourselves, and the season, as holy.

Please join us for any or all of these Ash Wednesday opportunities:

Morning Prayer and Ashes
Chatham UMC Sanctuary

We begin our morning quietly in the stillness of the sanctuary. Come and go as you need to, pray alone or with the pastor, and receive the mark of ashes if you wish.

Ashes at Edgar’s

For those who cannot attend a church Ash Wednesday service but would still like to receive prayer and ashes, meet Pastor Sara at Edgar’s (95 Plummer Drive, in the Goodwill building). Come and go as you wish, join Sara for lunch and conversation, or just receive a prayer card and marking.

Evening Ash
Wednesday Service
Chatham UMC Sanctuary

Join us for a meditative and meaningful Ash Wednesday service, including scripture, meditation, prayer, imposition of ashes, and Holy Communion. Bring your whole self – the good and the bad – and let’s begin a holy Lent together. Childcare is available for the 7:00pm service only.
