Dear Church Family,

2016 has gotten off to a great start here at Chatham United Methodist Church. God is calling our church to big things ahead, and I am so thankful we are all in it together. Hearing the stories over the past year of sacrifice and the effects of REACH has been VERY inspiring. Thanks to everyone for your faith and hope!

It has been amazing to see people working and planning together to vacate the building and set up new places to meet! Many members and friends have been involved in packing and moving thousands of items throughout the church building. Many people help set up and tear down our temporary worship space at the Sangamon Prairie Reception Center every week. The Office is running full speed ahead. Sunday School, Youth Groups, Study Groups, Missions, Committees, Choir, Praise Band, and the Nursery continue. People around town are noticing our church these days as we are meeting all over town instead of just on the square. We had our highest attendance so far this year Easter Sunday in the temporary space. The construction crew is set to arrive the
day after Easter on Monday, March 28.

A year ago, we committed $750,000 in faith pledges as individuals and families, to be given over a three-year period of time to REACH remodeling and expansion. These pledges, along with the appraisal of church property, enabled us to secure construction loans from a local bank for the $950,000 project.

Total pledges received

We are thrilled to announce that to date, we have received $308,300, or 41%, of pledged money and an additional $70,075 in gifts from individuals and memorial gifts from families who did not pledge to REACH but have given, anyway. Thanks be to God for these gifts. Thank you for your part in helping us to this place of victory. Every dollar raised and spent now goes directly toward the cost of construction and not to the interest on a loan.

What’s next?

On the first Sunday of April (April 3rd), we are going to celebrate our First Anniversary of REACH through prayer and an affirmation of our commitments.

  • For those who have committed to REACH, continue giving and prayerfully reaffirm your decision
  • For those who made a pledge commitment and have not started to fulfill that commitment, this is a wonderful time to begin your REACH journey of giving
  • For those who have yet to make a REACH commitment, prayerfully consider the first anniversary celebration as the time to be a part of our REACH effort
  • For those who have completed your REACH commitment, this is a time for gratitude and grace. Would you pray, “God what do you want to do through me now to accomplish your will for Chatham UMC?”

On April 3rd we will celebrate our Anniversary Offering and Groundbreaking Sunday. During the worship service there will be a special offering opportunity for each of us to make a significant investment in our REACH commitments. Our hope is to push us past the 50% pledged mark by the end of April.  Following the worship service on April 3rd we will walk “the Road to Emmaus” (walk/drive to the 104 W. Chestnut church building) and gather for Communion and Groundbreaking at 10:45am in the inner courtyard. (Bring your walking shoes!)  We look forward to a day of great celebration!

Thank you for your prayers, for your generosity, and for your commitment to God through Chatham UMC. Please continue to pray for Chatham UMC as we seek to transform lives and grow disciples for Jesus Christ.

REACHing out with you,

Pastor Sara
