The sound of the cicadas has always signaled late summer to me and marked the inevitable move toward fall. The fall of my childhood in a farming community featured combines moving noisily through the fields and grain trucks rumbling to the gran elevator.

We are blessed in so many ways beyond the material – with friendships, our church family, and the beauty of God’s creation

All of these memories remind me of the importance of a bountiful harvest and the many blessings God provides to us. We are blessed in so many ways beyond the material – with friendships, our church family, and the beauty of God’s creation that we can behold on a daily basis by looking outside our windows.

In the spirit of gratitude, I want to invite you to join in our church’s Harvest Sunday on October 25. On Harvest Sunday each year, we invite every member of the church to try a tithe, giving a full 10% of one’s weekly income into God’s hand for that week.

Some Christians already tithe regularly, and are well-practiced in this spiritual discipline of trust. For others, tithing is a new and challenging concept, and may seem like an impossible task. But I ask you to consider these thoughts. Despite all the challenges we may experience in providing the necessities for our family, we acknowledge that all blessings come from God. Tithing is a way to show our trust and commitment to the One who provides every blessing. Will you trust God in this way and try tithing? My family and I have discovered that giving God the first 10% of our income has resulted in our family’s needs always being met. Please join my family in tithing and receive the blessing of true contentment – I invite you to come along with us in this step of faith.

If you are not able to give a full 10% on Harvest Sunday, I encourage you to try trusting God with an increase that your heart tells you is your best. If you are not able to be present on October 25, you are welcome to make your tithe any Sunday or by stopping by the church office.

Thank you for your generosity and your willingness to trust God one more step. I am excited to see what God can do with us, for us, and through us.
